SCHOLARSHIPS MAY BE GRANTED:
1. To a person whose disability is such that a higher education in any field of study would provide an opportunity for a productive life.
2. In the amount of $1,500 per year, usually paid $750 per semester (to be applied to tuition only). The scholarship may be renewed, totaling eight (8) semesters, upon approval of the scholarship committee, based on
a. Grade point average of 2.50 or higher, (per term).
b. Availability of funds.
c. Application received on time.
3. Scholarships are limited to one person, per household, per year.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. A graduate of any high school in Des Moines County and a resident of Des Moines County for the last five years. (Older students that didn’t graduate from a Des Moines County High School must be a resident of Des Moines County for five (5) years prior to applying for a scholarship.)
2. Two letters of recommendation. (from school personnel, church minister, work or volunteer supervisor, or Scout leader, etc.)
3. Demonstrates ability to respond to higher educational programs, and maintains a 2.50 grade point average per term, (fall, spring, summer, etc.).
4. Include your doctor’s or school's written verification of disability. * Please note: Special Needs Foundation has the right to change any requirement.
5. Applicants may not be directly related to a member of the board of directors of the Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.

***Scholarship may be granted based on financial needs of the nominee when funding limits qualified applicants. The grant shall be annual. RENEWAL APPLICATION MUST BE MADE EACH YEAR AND ACCOMPANIED BY CURRENT TRANSCRIPT OF GRADES. After a class schedule has been received, payment shall be made to the registrar of the certified school where the recipient is attending.***
Each year a renewal application will be sent to you from the Gnahn Scholarship Committee. The completed renewal request, accompanied with a transcript of current grades, must be sent to the committee for approval for the coming year.
